 File — Folder: 6

Scope and Content

From the Collection: The collection contains historical information about the Jose Felipe Castillo family. This includes photographs and documentation pertaining to both the original and rebuilt Castillo family houses and family chapel (Our Lady of Refuge). The original house contained an attached chapel, and was built in 1878 by Franciso Castillo y Pino, father of Jose Felipe Castillo in Sauzal, New Mexico, which is south of Belen and near Las Nutrias. The collection also contains genealogical information about the family, correspondence regarding the settlement of Francisco Castillo y Pino with the U.S. Department of the Interior, Indian Division (1904), and receipts for groceries, house maintenance, and a wedding celebration in the early 1900s, as well as a Spanish document discussing the sanctioning and licensure of a church in Belen.
