This small collection contains materials related to the documentary film Doing Time. The film provides a close-up view of life in a maximum security prison, specifically, at the New Mexico State Penitentiary in Santa Fe, where the movie was shot on location in 1979. Filming was completed several months before the riot at the New Mexico State Penitentiary in which 33 people were killed. The movie was produced by Lon (Lawrence) Holmberg and Paul Sutton, and directed by Dave Ellis. Doing Time won several awards, including the Emery Award and two Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards, and was featured at several film festivals.
This collection includes news clippings about the movie, the working script from which the movie was created, a poster for the 1980 Aspen Filmfest, and the publication FrameUp: the opening defense statement made by Angela Y. Davis, March 29, 1972.
