This collection contains the records and library of the New Mexico Solar Energy Association. The organization collected resources on solar related information. The bulk of the collection dates from 1974-1983. The collection is arranged by subject, and is divided into the following 10 series:
NMSEA Administration. This series contains NMSEA's administrative files including governance, correspondence, minutes, grant proposals, program planning, fund raising and financial records, questionnaires, etc. It also contains materials related to NMSEA sponsored projects such as workshops, fairs, conferences, tours, training, Native American projects, and activity history, (1976-1980). This series includes complete runs of NMSEA's newsletter, Sunpaper (1975-1976), Bulletin (1976-1977), Southwest Bulletin (1977-1980), Sunpaper (1980), New Sunpaper (1993-1999), NMSEA SunPaper (2000-).
Energy Conservation. This series contains information related to solar and non-solar (alternative) technologies, applications of solar and non-solar energy for agriculture and landscape, and energy conservation policies.
Materials related to solar technologies include collectors, hot water heaters, air heaters, cookers, glazing, shading, passive cooling, ponds, selective surfaces, aluminum cans, trombe walls, mass walls, adobe, rammed earth, etc. Information on non-solar technologies covers water, grey water, ocean energy, wind, toilets, stirling engine, transportation, electrical systems, double envelopes, wood heat, geothermal, earth shelters, masonry, hydro-electric, lighting, and insulation . This series also contains information on solar and non-solar applications in agriculture and landscape, including farms, greenhouses, home gardens, community gardens, insect and disease control, alcohol fuels, biogass, biomass, crop dryers. Finally, this series contains information on energy policies such as ordinances, economic policy, financing, funding, solar and alternative technology organizations, audits, and biographies of solar leaders.
Solar Structures and Philosophies. This series contains information on a variety of buildings, environments, and philosophies. This includes houses, offices, schools, government buildings, mobile homes, rental housing, and churches. Builder guidelines are included in this series, as is information related to rural environments, developing countries, community organizations. Literature on the energy crisis, the history of solar energy, environmental issues, energy and the elderly, energy and the poor, etc. will also be found in this series.
Education. This series contains information on solar curriculum, vocational training, teaching sustainability, institutes, grants, including literature, guides, and training packets.
Quantitative Research. This series contains research on net energy, air quality, insolation, azimuth, collector standards, cost analysis, performance reports, sizing collectors, efficiency, indoor air quality, embodied energy, solar research at universities, arid climate design, climate data, orientation, material properties, u values, human comfort, temperature data, infiltration, and future trends.
Product Guides and Resources. This series contains state conservation information as well as product guides, informational brochures, bibliographies, and directories.
Non-NMSEA Publications, Workshops, and Conferences. This series contains articles, journals, and publications related to solar issues and energy conservation. Materials in this series have not been produced by NMSEA. Publications are both national and international in scope, originating from the DOE, NASA, HUD, PNM, Sandia, EDRA, LANL, Ed Mazria, Jay McGrew, etc. There are significant runs of Alternative Sources of Energy (Milaca, MN), Earth Shelter Living Newsletter (St. Paul, MN), Rain (Portland, OR), Renewable Energy News (Ottawa, Canada), and Solar Flashes, (Alamosa, CO). This series also contains information on non-NMSEA sponsored workshops and conferences.
Oversized. This series contains large format materials, including drawings, details, plans, and publications.
Audio. This series consists 37 audio cassettes. The majority of the tapes are of the 1978 Passive Conference and the 1982 Ghost Ranch Conference. There are a few audio cassettes that relate to slide show talks.
Photographs and Slides. This series contains photographs and slides of solar homes, greenhouses and devises. There are also photographs documenting NMSEA sponsored workshops and other events.
