Scope and Contents

Papers removed from a binder. Studies kept by JDR, an attorney and member of the Bar of the City of New York, from the 1920s, about treaties and peace efforts after World War I, outlawing war, the League of Nations, foreign relations with Europe and the Far East, international and United States law, legal policies, politics, government, economics, capitalism, the Progressive movement, with case studies and footnotes, etc. Some of the studies bear his signature and some do not. The following are signed by him: A draft review of a book on control of American foreign relations; a second review of a study of inter-nation organization; and third on Democracy’s international law. Later in the binder is found the published book review of the three books for The Nation, magazine, June 1923. A study of the Significance to Western Civilization of the Indian Non Cooperationist Movement, about Mahatma Gandhi in India. Another study called Some Thoughts on Reservations to the Four-Power Treaty, referring to the Washington Conference on Limitations of Armaments, 1922, regarding relations between the United States, France, Japan and Britain. An article by Robb for the Minnesota Law Review, called The Effect of Alteration or Abolition of a Municipal Corporation Upon Its Debts. An article for The Nation, Correspondence, The Bursting of the Dam, regarding the United States national election of 1920, defeat of the Republication Party, success of the Progressive movement, he said problems of the nation were economic not political. A letter to the editor of Minnesota Daily Star, June 1923, supporting a Farm Labor candidate, Robb said he himself had moderate, conservative views, discusses capitalism, excess wealth accumulation, need for balance, equality for workers, etc. Also an offprint of article for the Minnesota Law Review, which contains the translation from the French by Robb and Raymond Harper, of a lecture by Antonio S. de Bustamante y Sirven, on The Permanent Court of International Justice, the Hague, examples of support and law cases from around the world. Other topics of papers in the binder include a study of Article 429 of Treaty of Versailles, 1922; price discrimination and the Clayton Act; the Commission form of government; the offer of guaranty and the relation of United States anti-trust legislation to world politics.
