Scope and Content
From the Collection:
This collection contains single issues and partial runs of various popular, as opposed to scholarly, periodicals about the American West. Most of the issues are from the 1960's and 1970's, with a few issues from 1985. Prominent titles include Frontier Times, Real West, True West, and The West.
The articles are brief, sensational, and based on legend as well as facts. They are about outlaws, ghost towns, law officers, Indians, battles, lost mines and buried treasure, and other sensational aspects of life in the West. Most of these periodicals are published by a few publishers, some of whom published more than one title. The periodicals are arranged alphabetically by title. The collection has previously been called, "Modern Dime Novels."
