Scope and Content

From the Collection: The core of Archive #488 consists of papers, accumulated by Corry McDonald when he was chairperson of the New Mexico Wilderness Study Committee (1966-1976). The collection is divided into five series. The first series (boxes 1-2) contains correspondence, bills, proposals, reports, environmental studies, maps and general information pertaining to New Mexico wilderness areas. The second series, General Southwest, includes information on Southwest regional wilderness, water rights and mineral exploration.

Correspondence and newsletters of the New Mexico Wilderness Society, filed by year, 1975-1988 (box 4) represents an important supplement to the information in Boxes 1-3. The third series, Printed Material on Environmental Issues, housed in box 5 contains information related and unrelated to environmental issues of interest to Corry McDonald and include plans for energy efficient heating and cooling systems designed by him. Printed material, most from the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service, concerning environmental issues comprises the final series, Regional Printed Matters and Technological Studies.

Also includes two Sierra Club films, one on Glen Canyon and the other on the Grand Canyon.
