Scope and Content

From the Collection: The Butor Papers were donated to the University of New Mexico after Butor completed his terms as a visiting professor at the University of New Mexico, 1969-1970 and 1973-1974. It includes student essays written in the classes Butor taught, manuscripts of dissertations about Butor, and miscellaneous journal issues containing essays by Butor or articles on themes of French literature. There is a small component of Butor's manuscripts as well as letters he received while at the University of New Mexico. Most of these letters reflect Butor's involvement with literary review panels and art expositions in the Southwest. In addition, the collection includes some newspaper clippings by and about Butor and one published biography.

The collection contains materials written in French and English.
