4. A scrapbook about Glen O. Ream., 1926-1976

 Item — Box: 2

Scope and Content

From the Collection: The collection consists of five scrapbooks and thirty folders of papers, correspondence, and memorabilia pertaining to Glen O. Ream. The scrapbooks contain numerous examples of Ream's cartoons and other artwork. Among his non-published cartoons are many which reflect his experiences in the U. S. Army in 1918. Also contained in the scrapbooks are examples of Ream's other artistic talents, such as that evident in his linoleum block cut designs. The scrapbooks also contain clippings about Glen Ream Day and Ream's achievements and honors. Also housed in this collection are the original illustrations published in Isis Harrington's Told in the Twilight, examples of Ream's cartoon strip "Little First Americans," and samples of Ream's writing. Several articles written by Ream were submitted (with varying success) to assorted journals. His writings reflect his interests in the introduction of archaeology to high school students, high school students' projects in satellite tracking (1961), the history of education in New Mexico, and the history of the state, in general. On the latter theme, Ream published the book Out of New Mexico's Past in 1980, and this, too, is in this collection. Ream's master's thesis regarding the relative academic success of students of Spanish-American heritage is available to researchers in this collection, as are copies of Ream's speeches and notebooks used for teaching art history and line drawing. In his writings, Ream mentions a few noted students of Albuquerque High School, including Hollywood actor Don Alvarado. Correspondence between Glen Ream and E.R. Harrington, as well as correspondence with silent movie actress Lillian Gish is also contained in this collection.
