Scope and Content

From the Collection: The collection consists of business and personal correspondence relating to the Clack homestead in Tajique, N.M.. The business correspondence includes the original homestead entry form as well as applications and subsequent rejections for extensions on the improvements needed to retain the homestead. Records specific to cattle include receipts for cattle sold, certificates of bloodlines of bulls, certificates of John Clack's brand, and descriptions of various cattle owned by the Clacks. Personal correspondence includes stories and poems written by Jane Clack, a genealogy of the Finley family, and a ledger used to write both fiction and rough drafts of business correspondence. The majority of surviving letters relate to the struggling Torrance County homestead.
