The Statue and The Bridge. Typescript., 1933-1981

 File — Box: 2, Folder: 34

Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection consists of correspondence between Etta Blum and editors of various poetry journals regarding the publication of Etta Blum's original poems. Journals and papers to which Etta Blum submitted poetry include the Chicago Jewish Forum, the Kansas City Star, the New York Herald Tribune, The Sixties, The Hudson Review, Chelsea, The Word-Smith, Midstream: A Monthly Jewish Review, and Poetry NOW. Among the letters congratulating Ms. Blum on the acceptance of her poetry for publication is one from Robert Bly, then editor of The Sixties. Correspondence between Etta Blum and various funding agencies (The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, the MacDowell Colony, and the Michael Karolyi Memorial Foundation) is also held in this collection. The collection also contains her translations into English of her husband's and other poetry, written in Yiddish. The greatest value of this collection lies in Etta Blum's numerous personal journals containing poetry written in her hand between 1926 and 1980. Some of the poetry from these journals is included in her publications, though most is not. There is poetry recorded on one cassette in this collection as well.
