 Item — Folder: 1

Scope and Content

From the Collection: The Fisher Family Papers include materials related to the friendship of Alan and Gladys Fisher with D.H. and Frieda Lawrence. Images in the collection include one glossy photograph of Gladys Fisher's sculpture of Gertrude Stein, and a photocopy of an embroidery by the Lawrences called the "Winged Etruscan." It was a gift to the Fishers. In addition, there are newspaper obituaries of both Alan and Gladys Fisher and a newspaper clipping describing the donation of the Stein sculpture and Lawrence embroidery to the Center for Southwest Research. There are two articles about Frieda Lawrence. One is a photocopy from Frieda Lawrence (1973) describing her life in northern New Mexico. The other is a typescript of an article written by Alan Fisher about Frieda Lawrence's experiences in New Mexico. Additional photocopied pages show Gladys Fisher's fox carving that decorated D.H. Lawrence's tomb, and a picture of Gladys Fisher herself.

Note: Information concerning a display of Gladys Fisher's work is in the accession folder for this collection.
