Victoria Davis de Sánchez, Nambe School - Grade 5-6 (a),, September 1938- April 1939

 Item — Box: 20, Diary: 1

Scope and Contents

This diary opens on September 12, 1938 with a discussion of the Nambe community and the role of the school within the community. Unlike many other diaries, this one appears to focus more on interaction, development and cultural aspects, rather than specific teaching methodologies. There is a good discussion of the role of farming in the community. For example, de Sánchez comments on the food unit and suggests that local farmers sell blue corn in Santa Fe, rather than "chicos" because it will fetch a higher price at market. The students are broken down in A, B, and C groups, named, and discussed in detail . Throughout the diary are student comments on commerce, agricultural practices and field trips. De Sánchez visited students' homes and recorded interactions with parents and grandparents. Throughout this journal are comments by Dr. Tireman. A thin, supplementary (labeled "b") is a continuation of this academic year diary.
