Ruth Logan, San Jose School - Grade 3, 1936-1937

 Item — Box: 15, Diary: 3

Scope and Contents

This teacher focuses more intently on reading, writing, and activity or theme based learning. The diary contains extensive notes on reading lessons and turned in writing lessons. The teacher would often set up questions and reading assignments that would directly relate to "possible" field trips to locations such as mills and bakeries. The teacher also reflects on the material used in the course and suggests retiring "dittos" and instead focusing on group projects. This diary contains a letter that was sent to the class from Indiana. The original letter is missing, other than a list of names, assumed to have been written by the children in Indiana. Towards the end of the diary, the teacher refers to a "C group," similar to the way other teachers have divided students into A, B, C academic groups.
