Scope and Content

From the Collection: The collection consists of thirteen journals, or diaries, kept by Clement March, 1854-1869 (missing the years 1865 and 1868.) Many of the entries note his interests in mining and stock trading, including amounts paid and accounts due. Other prominent entries deal with the family farm or with social visits. Playing whist was a favorite entertainment; he recorded winnings and losses for the year in the back of the volumes. The single letter in the collection is addressed to Charles W. March and is concerned with the election of Daniel Webster to the state legislature.
