Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection is comprised of two typed drafts of Governments of Latin America, with handwritten comments; two partial copies of the printer's proofs; and a syllabus for a course taught at the University of New Mexico regarding the same topic as the book.

The manuscript addresses the political science of Latin America, generally, and the specific topics of the colonial background of the Latin American nations, the ideology dominant in each, the governmental organization and division of power, including the form of legislative and judicial power in each nation, the laws regarding property, the role of the military and of the Church, questions of labor, and the development of the constitution for each country addressed. The countries examined in this book are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
