Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection contains one bound manuscript entitled Flora of Colorado by Sallie Robbins. The front leaf of the manuscript indicates, in handwriting, "Miss Sallie Robbins, Canton O[hio]. E & M Denver, Colorado. March 5, 1868." Original artwork on the title page states the name of the manuscript and notes Kellogg and Co. of Denver as the publisher in 1867. The manuscript consists of 51 pages in a book bound by Byers & Dailey Book Binders and Blank Book Manufacturers of Denver, Colorado. Each page contains a dried, pressed flower sample with the name of the plant handwritten below the sample. In most cases, the name of the plant is written in Spanish with the English vulgar name in parentheses below. In few cases, only the English vulgar name or the Spanish vulgar name is provided. In eleven cases, there is no plant name accompanying the sample. Many plants included in this manuscript are plants native to desert areas.
