Content Description

This collection consists of 202 photographs of Raton buildings (residences, commercial buildings, churches, and civic buildings) taken by Nancy Robertson under the auspices of the Raton Bicentennial Heritage Committee of 1976. The photographs were part of the Raton Bicentennial Historic Inventory, and were intended to be compared to a then well-known photographic panorama taken in 1901 from Raton’s Goat Hill.

Also included with the accession files ts is a 1976 historical report authored by Nancy Robertson, which accompanied a graphic depiction of the region’s history (this is lost and not included here), from the ‘prehistoric’ era of 10,000 years ago to 1976. A 1976 map of the town of Raton is also present.

Biographical / Historical

Nancy Lee Robertson, born July 16 1933, in Philadelphia, was an anthropologist, historian, genaeologist, and author. Her collection of maps, petroglyph photographs, church and cemetery records, documents and photographs pertaining to Raton, NM and Colfax County, NM is housed at the Museum of New Mexico in Santa Fe. She was instrumental in having the Santa Fe Trail designated as a national historic trail. Robertson died on September 5, 2023.
