This collection consists of two series of postcards and photographs of the Mexican Punitive expedition, also known as the Pancho Villa expedition, in Columbus, New Mexico and Nogales, Arizona. It also includes a few postcards of the Mexican revolution in Northern Mexico.

Esta colección consiste de dos series de postales y fotografías de la expedición punitiva, también conocida como la expedición contra Pancho Villa, en Columbus, Nuevo México y Nogales, Arizona. También incluye algunas postales sobre la revolución mexicana en el norte de México.

Historical Information / Información Histórica

After Pancho Villa’s raid in Columbus, N.M. on March 9, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson designated Gen. John Pershing to lead the punitive expedition in pursuit of Villa. In June 1916, President Wilson called out National Guards of various states to assist with the military operations in the U.S. – Mexico border. Villas was never captured and by February of 1917, most of the troops were withdrawn from the border, except for some small units that stayed in Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Después del ataque de Pancho Villa en Columbus, Nuevo México el 9 de marzo de 1916, el presidente Woodrow Wilson designó al Gen. John Pershing para dirigir la expedición en busqueda de Villa. En junio de 1916 el president Wilson llamó a las guardias nacionales de varios estados para que asistieran con las operaciones militares en la frontera de los Estados Unidos y México. Villa nunca fue capturado y para febrero de 1917 la mayoría de las tropas fueron retiradas de la frontera, excepto por algunas unidades pequeñas que permanecieron en Texas, Arizona y Nuevo México.
