Biographical Information

In 1969 Dr. Homer Musgrave, MD. of Albuquerque, donated this collection to the Historical Society of New Mexico, which in turn gave the collection to the Palace of the Governors Photo Archives in 1975 where it could be “kept in good order and they could help people to use it” . The collection consists of 228 photographs and includes several pictures taken by one of Dr. Musgrave’s friends or relatives who, as reporter for an Ohio newspaper, covered the events following Pancho Villa’s raid on Columbus, New Mexico on March 16, 1916 during the unrest of the Mexican Revolution. The Mexican Expedition or Punitive Expedition into Mexico looking for Poncho Villas paramilitary forces, was commanded by General John J. Pershing and was based in Columbus, New Mexico. This collection includes several other photo postcards and prints by other photographers bought in the El Paso area by the reporter.
