Biographical Information

Howard Bryan was born in Delaware, Ohio, on March 25, 1920. After attending Ohio State University and serving with the U.S. Army Signal Service in World War II, he began a storied career in journalism. In 1948, Bryan began working for The Albuquerque Tribune, where he covered stories related to New Mexico frontier history in the popular column “Off the Beaten Path.” He wrote seven books of New Mexico history, including Incredible Elfego Baca: Good Man, Bad Man of the Old West (1993), which won the Western Writers of America Spur Award.
