Red River - Biking; Fishing; Horseback Riding
Scope and Contents
This collection consists primarily of Mark Nohl’s 35mm and 4 x 5-inch color slides and transparencies, most of which were taken during Nohl’s tenure as staff photographer for the New Mexico Department of Tourism and New Mexico Magazine. These photographs include portraits of Native American artists at work; object photography of artworks by many of those same artists; portraits of New Mexican scholars and writers; and various New Mexico landscapes and places, including Native American pueblos and reservations; cities and towns; and national and state parks and monuments. Many of these images probably appeared in published editions of the magazine. The collection also includes additional work for hire outside of his position, as well as images compiled for publication in two books, The Allure of Turquoise and Mark Nohl: Photographs of New Mexico. In addition to photographic transparencies, this collection also contains some 35mm and 4 x 5-inch black-and-white negatives and a small number of black-and-white prints and color Polaroid prints.
