Donizetta Hewett's family photo album, 1870 - 1920
Item — Box: 9
Identifier: PAAC.056.A01
Scope and Contents
Purple velvet album containing family photographs. A majority of the photographs are cabinet cards, though some larger photographs are tucked in loose between pages. Most of the people in the photographs are unidentified. Very few have writing on the back identifying the subject in the photograph. The album contains photographs of Henry K. Morrell, Donizetta Hewett's grandfather, as well as a photograph of Rev. Theodore Ledyard Cuyler, her first cousin once removed. The presence of family photographs, as well as a prevalence of photographs having stamps from studios based in Red Oak, Iowa, point to this album having belonged to Donizetta Hewett. Other persons named in the album include George Anderson, Albert and Albina Perry, Julia Grace McGaw, Malcolm B. Fraser, children Maude Emily and Mabel Margret, as well as the Red Oak home of M.E. Fisher, wholesale grocer. Donizetta traced her geneaology back to great-great grandparents on an application to the Daughters of the American Revolution. It is likely that relatives named on that application may appear in this album. That application can be found in the Edgar L. Hewett Manuscript Collection, AC 105, B_19_009-011.
