Scope and Contents
From the Class:
This record is used to track catalogued boudoir cards not described in another collection.
Boudoir cards are card-mounted photographs much like cabinet cards, but boudoir cards are more generously sized [8.5 x 5.5 inches]. The term refers to the format, not the subject matter. The format was used beginning in the late 1870s, grew in popularity in the 1880s, and use tapered off after 1900. In some cases, images created earlier may have been republished in this format.
Subjects of these photographs frequently include landscapes, events, studio portraits, and group photographs.
This finding aid also includes card-mounted photographs in "corona" or "panel" cabinet card size [8.5 x 4 inches], which share the long dimension with boudoir cabinet cards, but are not as wide on the short side.
