Scope and Contents

Series I: Los Matachines de Alcalde contains photographs of the Matachines dances in northern New Mexico, a tradition shared by Pueblo and Hispano communities. Hall took this series of photographs in Alcalde in the 1980s. Some of the photos in this set were done for a New Mexico Magazine piece in 1986.

Although the dances are public, photography at these events has been restricted for some time. Although some of these photographs have been published, we recommend consultation and collaboration with the community of Alcalde for any further public reproduction, interpretation or display.
