Will Connell "Old-Fashioned" Photo Album

 Unprocessed
Identifier: HP.1975.01

Content Description

The 27 photographs in this collection were removed from an "Old-Fashioned Photo Album" created by photographer Will Connell and given to Ina Sizer Cassidy ca. 1932-1933. Mrs. Cassidy subsequently donated the album to the New Mexico Historical Society in February 1965. Many of the cabinet card photographs were likely made at a "celebrity party" given by Ina Sizer and Gerald Cassidy for Connell's project. According to a clipping from the Santa Fe New Mexican (June 4, 1932), guests included: the Gustave Baumanns; the Cyrus McCormicks; the Allan Clarkes; the Carlos Vierras; the Josef Bakers; the Will Shusters; the Willard Nashes; the Langdon Mitchells; the Withers Woolfords; the Ladd Haysteads; the John Sloans; John Meem; Olive Rush; Witter Bynner; the Cassidys. Other artists and writers of Santa Fe and Taos were photographed during Connell's visit, as reported in that clipping, and confirmed by related paperwork from the Historical Society, both included in the accession file when recorded by Museum of New Mexico. A photocopied page from Touring Topics Magazine in May 1933 shows that some of the "old-fashioned" portraits were published. Portraits in the photo album: Edith and Willard Nash; Andrew Dasburg; Jesse L. Nusbaum; Kenneth M. Chapman; Ruth Laughlin; Olive Rush; Bert Phillips; Witter Bynner; Earl Scott; Roark Bradford; Sheldon Parsons; Dorothy Brett; Mr. and Mrs. Langdon Mitchell; John and Dolly Sloan; Victor Higgins; Irving Couse; "Long"John Dunn; W. Herbert "Buck" Dunton; Gus Baumann; Ladd and Lindy Haystead; William Penhallow and Alice Corbin Henderson; Joseph H. Sharp; Elizabeth Willis DeHuff; Ernest L. Blumenschein; Carlos and Ida Vierra; Erna Ferguson; Ina Sizer Cassidy and Ruth Laughlin.
