A collection of stereographic view photos of New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Illinois, and Chariton, Iowa mostly by Henry. T. Hiester. The Southwestern photos include views of Santa Fe, Native American life in NM and AZ, Fort Defiance, Fort Stanton, and Glorieta Battlefield. Included is a self-portrait by Hiester. Miscellaneous formats exist throughout the collection, and work by other photographers (such as Timothy H. O'Sullivan) is represented. Correspondence between the donor -- nephew of Henry Hiester -- and the Museum reveals some biographical detail about the photographer.
