Joseph Imhof Research Collection photographs 1930-1970 (History Library AC579). The research collection, held at the History Library, consists of extensive Joseph Imhof research materials collected by Nancy Reily, including correspondence, art work research, interviews, and articles. Also part of the collection is documentation of his paintings, lithographs, drawings and greeting cards. Photographs from the collection were transferred to Photo Archives. Joseph Imhof was born in 1871 spent his early years in the New York City area. He did art work for Currier and Ives and met Buffalo Bill Cody on a trip to Europe. He married Sarah (Sallie) Russell Stuart (1872-1966) in 1897 and they settled in the New York City area. They spent time in Albuquerque from 1907 to 1912, before settling in Taos in 1929. Imhof actively painted and photographed Indian ceremonies and was also a prominent lithographer.
