Collection of approximately (300) photographs of vernacular architecture of NM, 1970s-1990s. Many of the buildings and towns have not yet been represented in the photo archives. By Robert Christensen. Vernacular architecture (also folk architecture) is building done outside any academic tradition, and without professional guidance. New Mexico vernacular architecture developed from the c.1870s to c.1940s. One typical form is the one-story hipped box massing, with very limited ornamentation or no ornamentation at all.
