Photo Album, Lovett Family Ranch and Guatemala
Content Description
Photo Album with 165 photographs relating to the Lovett family ranch in Guatemala, ca. 1897.; Includes scenes of Quezaltenango and Zunil [incorrectly spelled Zumil in the accession paperwork], including some photographs by E. J. Kildare and Piggot y Losher.; Accession paperwork includes a document from 3rd party appraiser David Margolis of Margolis & Moss Fine Books, Prints, Photographs & Ephemera that adds further description of the album with "Included are three panorama's of Quetzaltenango, various villages near Zumil [Zunil], studio portraits of native "types," and some candid photographs of the family and their outings. Most are albumen photographs, ranging in size from 3x4 inches to 8x10 inches. Though wrinkled, the mounted photographs are in a sound state of preservation. Photographs from Central America in the late 19th century are relatively uncommon. This album shows a fascinating view of a colonial family at this time. There are a number of interior views of buildings which are quite rare. The family was obviously well off, and are often shown interacting with the native population."
