Biographical / Historical
Walter was enrolled as a cadet at New Mexico Military Institute during 1921-1923 and during his time enrolled, he wrote to his girlfriend named Alberta (Bert) Howard of El Paso, Texas. According to the seller’s description, the letters “all proclaiming his devotion to her and some with interesting content about life in the military school.” The letters provide a glimpse into a cadet’s social life while enrolled at the New Mexico Military Institute. Topics covered in the letters include drills, inspections, hazing, rifle range and marksmanship, football, movies, dances, and other relevant occurrences.
