The Henn-Johnson Library and Local History Archives Foundation collection spans the years ca. 1870-2011, The materials are divided into 12 series: Nora Henn research files; Nora Henn correspondence; Nora Henn manuscripts; Walter Henn research files; Alice Blakestad research files; Candy Bosselman research files; John Boylan research files; Philip J. Rasch research files; Betty and William Schreckengost research files; Audio and visual material; Photographs; and Maps. The bulk of the collection consists of materials collected by Nora Henn and Alice Blakestad and research conducted by other Lincoln County historians. Note, the collection has been retained in the original order as it was acquired from the Henn-Johnson Library and Local History Archives Foundation.

The Nora Henn Research files series contains original and primary source material, biographical collections, census material, manuscripts, correspondence, copies of county and federal records concerning local history, transcribed interviews, bibliographies, family genealogies, periodicals and other historical resources. The series is arranged in alphabetical order and date span includes material from 1959-1988.

The Nora Henn Correspondence series contains correspondence in the form of postcards, letters, and emails to business associates, organizations, publishers, authors, and fellow historians. The series is arranged in alphabetical order based upon the last name of the correspondent, and also contains many documents written by Nora Henn on behalf of the Lincoln County Historical Society. Dates range from 1964-2005.

The Nora Henn Manuscripts series contains original handwritten and typed drafts, revisions, and copies of original manuscripts written by Nora Henn, primarily those of the Lincoln County War and Santa Fe Ring. The series also features correspondence with various authors and publishers that reviewed Nora’s drafts, as well as secondary source material with information that supported the topic of her writing. This series is arranged categorically, with correspondence and information pertaining to the manuscripts beginning first, followed by drafts and revisions towards the end. Dates range from 1978-2007.

The Walter Henn Research Files series contains the original sketchbooks and notepads of Walter Henn, those of which contain the illustrations of various places in Lincoln County that have since been widely used by the Lincoln County Historical Society in promoting their organization and events. While the material is explicitly undated, it is assumed the sketches were drawn anytime from 1965-1999, which is when Walter and Nora moved to Lincoln, and also when Mr. Henn passed away.

The Alice Blakestad Research Files series contains original and primary source material, cemetery records and indexes, research, correspondence, genealogical data and notes pertaining to Lincoln County and the surrounding Hondo Valley. The series is arranged based upon subject material and the date span ranges from 1956-2003.

The Candy Bosselman Research Files series contains primary research documents, books, indexes, correspondence, and notes pertaining to the Southwestern United States, New Mexico, Billy the Kid, and Lincoln County. The series is arranged alphabetically and dates range from 1996-2002.

The John Boylan Research Files series contains records, documents, correspondence, and research pertaining to the Wortley Hotel, Amelia Church, and various other historical sites within Lincoln County, New Mexico. The dates in the series range from 1953-1989.

The Phillip J. Rasch Research Files series contains original manuscripts, documents, research, correspondence, and publications of Historical figures from Lincoln County, New Mexico during the Lincoln County War. The series is arranged alphabetically and dates range from 1956-1990.

The Betty and William Schrecengost Research Files series contains original legal documents, reports, correspondence, meeting minutes, and maps pertaining to the water rights of Lincoln County, New Mexico. The materials in this series are arranged categorically and dates range from 1951-1995.

Abstract

The bulk of the collection includes the research files of Nora Henn (nee Johnson)and materials by and collected by Alice Blakestad. The collection is approximately 100 linear feet of material. The collection consist of primary and secondary sources to publish her own historical writings on Lincoln County. The material was previously housed at the former Nora and Walter Henn residence/Henn-Johnson Library and Archives research facility, a couple of miles away from the village historic district. Materials that comprise the Henn collection include county and federal records that relate to Lincoln County, family genealogical material on pioneer families who resided for generations in the region, correspondence between various historians, and maps just to name a few items found among the collection. Another sizable portion of the collection are materials collected by another historian Alice Blakestad. The Blakestad material focuses on local genealogical information relating to families within the vicinity of Lincoln County region.
