Scope and Content Note
The papers of Marianne H. Thaeler date from 1972-1978 and cover her tenure as Las Cruces' first woman City Commissioner. The materials are divided into seven series: Campaign Materials; Reading Files; Agendas; Reports; Badges and Calling Cards; Additions; and Photographs. Papers in this collection relate primarily to Mrs. Thaeler's activities as City Commissioner.
Campaign Materials includes newspaper clippings which not only cover Mrs. Thaeler's election campaigns but those of other city politicians. Mrs. Thaeler's subject arranged office files comprise the Reading Files. Agendas contains complete runs of commission agendas, including minutes of previous meetings, copies of resolutions to be considered and supporting documents for reports and requests submitted to the commission. The Reports series consists of both published and unpublished reports describing specific plans for Las Cruces as well as proposed solutions and alternatives for more national issues. Additions contains materials of various organizations Thaeler was involved with including Faculty Women at New Mexico State University and League of Women Voters.
