Biographical / Historical

The Big Band on the Rio Grande was formed in 1990 as a community band focusing on swing and big band music of the 1930s through 1950s. The band consisted of approximately 15 members and played regular dances at Las Cruces-area clubs and other venues. Since its inception, the band has been active playing concerts, dances and community events throughout the Mesilla Valley. As of 2019, the band is still playing a repertoire of "exciting new big band compositions and arrangements as well as the tried and true music from the heyday of the big bands."
