Scope and Contents
The Mountian and Valley Wool Association records are arranged into five series: organizational records, the Taos Wool Festival, printed media, audiovisual and electronic media, and photographs. These materials span the years of 1980-2015. Organizational records consist of history and bylaws, corporate and business related documents, membership information, meeting minutes, financial records, tax grants, promotional material, and supplier records. The Taos Wool Festival consists of legal records, promotional material, funding information, festival programs, festival reports, and Wool Market records. Printed media consists of various newspaper and magazine articles pertaining to the organization. Adiovisual and electronic media consists of... Biographical / Historical
The Mountain and Valley Wool Association (MAVWA) is a northern New Mexico and southern Colorado based membership association. It was incorporated under its current name as a membership organization in April of 1983. The association holds a festival called the Taos Wool Festival, originally named The Wool Festival at Taos, annualy every fall. In 1984 the first Taos Wool Festival was held at Kit Carson Park in Taos, New Mexico and has been held there every year since. The idea of the festival was to "connect regional animal fiber growers with regional fiber artisits for the economic benefit of both." The Taos Wool Festival consists of many activities including a petting zoo, competitions, silent auctions, demonstrations, live music, workshops, and hands-on activies for children.

Abstract
The records of the Mountain and Valley Wool Association document the activies of a northern New Mexico and southern Colorado based wool industry social organization. The association was incorporated as a membership organization in April of 1983 and is still active today. The organization's objective is to create and advertise woolen goods. The association holds an annual Wool Festival in Taos, New Mexico. The first festival was held in September of 1984 and is located at Kit Carson Park in Taos. The records consist of organizational records, records of the Taos Wool Festival, printed media pertaining to the organization, audiovisual media, and photographs.
