Scope and Contents
The Julia Lohman letters collection contains letters to Julia Lohman, including condolence messages on the death of her son Edgar in March 1893. Also included are invites to meetings, along with postcards from 1868-1939. There is also one letter from E.A. Cahoon from W.A. Fleming Jones from 1912.

Biographical / Historical
Julia Myers Lohman was born January 24, 1864 in St. Louis, Missouri to John and Helen Myers, one of 5 daughters and three sons. She came to Las Cruces, New Mexico as a bride in 1884 and married John Frederick Lohman. They had three children, Edgar, Eugene and Elmer. Edgar died when he was seven years old in March 1893. Elmer died in 1959 at the age of 64. Eugene and Elmer both attended the Roswell Military Institute, now the New Mexico Military Institute. Fred and Julia Lohman built a house on Griggs Street in Las Cruces in 1886. After the house was sold, they moved out to Elmer’s cotton farm. Fred Lohman worked as a bookkeeper for his brother Martin Lohman and Numo Raymond who were merchants.
