Biographical / Historical

Known first as the Southwestern New Mexico Cattle Growers’ Association, this organization was formed in 1914 in Silver City to promote the interests of cattle growers in New Mexico, to secure friendship among the cattle growers, and to instill sound and correct principles for the breeding and growing of cattle. Among the specific objectives of the group was the aim to assist and encourage the New Mexico Livestock Sanitary Board in its efforts to encourage and build up the livestock industry and to enforce state stock laws. Another concern was to support the enactment of good, wholesome laws which will protect and encourage the cattle growers’ interests in the state. In fulfilling this mission, the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association has become one of the most powerful and active organizations in the state. The organization was also formerly known as the New Mexico Cattle and Horse Growers’ Association. They maintain a website at http://www.nmagriculture.org/.
