Biography / History

Originally built in 1893, the South Ward School became affiliated with Las Cruces School District No.2, which was created in 1934 after the city consolidated different schools and districts. The South Ward School, at the corner of Amador and Alameda, was torn down and converted into school administrative offices in 1957. The South Ward Elementary school became the building for the first classroom of the Las Cruces College, which became New Mexico State University.
