Scope and Content
The collection consists of Philip Wrench’s own research and articles in religious iconography, particularly that of Latin America and Spain. Also included are various sources that Mr. Wrench used in his research. The collection also includes photographs, slides, and other memorabilia. Most of the sources are in Spanish, however, some are in English, Italian, or German.

Biography / History
Philip Wrench was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 1930. He graduated from Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, Virginia, in 1948. He received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Yale University in 1952. Wrench began purchasing and collecting retablos in 1963. In 1985, he purchased a number of retablos and realized that they had been misidentified. This started him on his journey to learn more about the retablos that he had in his possession. Mr. Wrench passed away on August 19, 2008, in Houston, Texas. Source: Taken from the Biography of Philip Wrench (Box 1)
