Biographical Sketch
Isidoro Armijo was born February 15, 1871, at the Armijo family home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The son of Jacinto Armijo (1845-1898) and grandson of Isidoro Armijo (1801-1898), Isidoro served his local community and the state of New Mexico throughout his life. A graduate of the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (now New Mexico State University), his first career was as an educator, which later earned him a seat on the Las Cruces Board of Education. Starting in 1889, he worked as a newspaper publisher for both El Progresso and El Flor del Valle in Las Cruces. He filled the position of probate clerk (1902-1911) and ex-officio recorder in Doña Ana County, and was well known as an interpreter, both for the courts ad for political events. His skill as an interpreter and the political connections he made led him to be appointed as a member of the New Mexico Constitutional Convention in 1910.
Isidoro Armijo married Jennie Archibald on January 18, 1901. They had two children: Ernestine, born 1904 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Willard, born in 1908. Isidoro died in 1949.
