Organizational History

In 1951 a group of individuals got together to meet and discuss possible methods for organizing and controlling cloud seeding operations. Their intention was to raise standards for those involved in weather modification. A second meeting that year led to the creation of the Weather Control Research Association. At this meeting tentative by-laws were established and officers were elected. In 1967 the organization changed its name to the Weather Modification Association.

The goals of the Weather Modification Association are to promote the responsible application of weather modification technology; to promote research and development in the area of weather modification; to serve as a clearinghouse for information on weather modification; to produce and disseminate policy statements on all aspects of weather modification; to insure that certified members conduct weather modification projects; and to encourage international cooperation in weather modification activities. In addition, the Weather Modification Society publishes the Journal of Weather Modification.
