Scope and Content
The records of the New Mexico Extension Homemakers Council span the years 1918-1992 and comprise three linear feet. The majority of materials begin in 1941, when the NMEHC was created. The collection contains administrative and historical information on the organization and projects conducted by the NMEHC. There are also publications by the NMEHC and publications on topics relating to home economics.
The collection is arranged into four series: General Files, 1946-1992; Oral Histories; Minutes and Meetings, 1941-1981; and Publications, 1918-1991.

Historical Information
The New Mexico Extension Homemakers Council (NMEHC) is a non-profit organization which was created in 1941. Originally called the New Mexico Association of Home Extension Clubs, the NMEHC wanted to encourage adult education in home economics through the Extension Service of the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts.
As the organization developed so did its mission. The current by-laws of the NMEHC state the mission to be to strengthen, develop, coordinate, and extend youth and adult education in home economics, agriculture, and related subjects through the cooperative extension service of New Mexico State University. The organization also provides an opportunity for homemakers to pool their judgements and experiences for the improvement of home and community life.
