The Black River Christian Retreat Records span the years 1916-1979, the bulk between 1955-1979. The material is divided into six series: Board of Trustees; Camp Operations; Correspondence; Financial Records; Legal Documents; and Photographs. The records pertain to all aspects of the operation and upkeep of the campground. The largest series is Financial Records, containing receipts of purchase, bank records, and financial reports.

Black River Christian Retreat is located near Carlsbad, New Mexico, and is owned and operated by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The Retreat is governed by a Board of Trustees, consisting of the area minister and two additional members of each church.

Abstract
Church camp owned and operated by the Christian Church of West Texas and Southern New Mexico. Includes minutes of the Board of Trustees and committee correspondence and reports; materials generated as a result of camp operations such as monthly reports, schedules, sale and lease prospects, work lists; correspondence, financial records including annual reports, comparative balance sheets, cash summaries, bank books and statements, food service income and expenses, inventories, statements for special funds, tax information, and other items; and by-laws, contracts, water rights, pipeline agreements, and material created as a result of a 1963 lawsuit filed by a guest.
