Biographical Sketch

Harold Eugene "Hal" Cooley was born August 21, 1909 in Long Prairie, Minnesota. He graduated in 1930 from the University of Minnesota. Cooley served, strictly on the ground, in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. Later, Cooley married Nynah McDonald. Cooley started in the Chino Mines Division of Kennecott Copper Corporation located in Hurley, New Mexico, in April of 1955. He started as a bewildered member of the Industrial Relations Department, just as the first issue of Chinorama came off the press. He then started helping with the mailing of the magazine. He was considered "assistant editor" but for some time he never had his name printed on the masthead. Soon after, the magazine was shifted to the Public Relations Department. Cooley retired from Chino on January 1, 1970. His retirement fell short of receiving full benefits due to his wife Nynah battling a critical illness.
