Scope and Content Note
Post card album containing 398 hand-painted watercolor post cards, mostly scenes of French villages and countryside, produced in 1916 and 1917. The back of each post card bears the identical printed image containing the statement "The Comite des Etudiants Americain de l'Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris, guarantee the authenticity of this post card."

Organizational Sketch
Ecole des Beaux is a French national school of fine arts, on the Quai Malaquais in Paris and was founded in 1648 by with the consent of . The title was changed in 1793, when it merged with the Acad?mie d'architecture, founded in 1671 by . The school was brought under control of the government by Louis XIV to guarantee a pool of artists available to decorate the palaces and paint the royalty but was made independent by Napol?on III in 1863.
The school includes departments of painting, graphic arts, and sculpture and is free to artists whose previous training enables them to pass the entrance examinations. Architecture was taught at the school until 1968. Students are prepared in the various courses to compete for the Prix de Rome, which provides admission to the Acad?mie de France ? Rome. Besides its extensive collection of plaster casts of antiquities, the ?cole is known for its superb collection of old-master drawings and for its exhibitions.
