From the Collection:
This collection is an accumulation of several accessions gifted from Roberts K Haldane which includes her family research beginning with Ananias Green a pioneer in the Territory of New Mexico. Also included is her research for her book Gold-Mining Boomtown: people of White Oaks, Lincoln County, New Mexico. This research on pioneering people of White Oaks, New Mexico details of the history of more than forty families and individuals who made their homes there during its boom. Included is correspondence with descendants who shared documents and photographs for Haldane’s book, including two CDs containing images. Also includes correspondence to descendants of those families, photographs, family bible of the Green/Gilmore families. Research material of the southeastern New Mexico community of White Oaks. The collection contains original photographs, tintypes as well as photocopied images. Handwritten accounts and legal documents were transcribed and are placed next to the document original document in most cases. Some brief mentions of Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett are mentioned in the collection. Collection contains a long braid of human hair belonging to Anna Gilmore Green cut after her death in 1892. She was 44 years old when she passed away. The account of her saving her own children and her neighbors family before succumbing to the same illness is detailed in Box 9 binder 1. The collection was kept in the original order as accessioned. Photographs were removed from photo albums for preservation purposes. The photo folders were named as Haldane labeled them on tabs within the photo albums.
