Scope and Content
From the Collection:
The Herman Weisner collections spans the years circa 1957-1992. The materials are divided into five series: Research Files, Tapes, Photographs, Posterboards, and Additions. The materials are the result of years of research conducted by Weisner, both in archives and libraries, and through interviews and oral histories.
The collection has been retained in the original filing order designated by Weisner. The container list, including any irregularities of format and spelling, was created by Weisner and has been maintained in its entirety.
The Research Files series consists largely of photocopied historic documents, and of notes taken by Weisner. Materials in this series consist of legal documents such as court cases, warrants for arrests, and deeds. Also included are marriage certificates, letters and publications.
The Tape series consists of interviews conducted by Weisner, in addition to speeches delivered by Weisner on New Mexico history. Included in the list of interviewees are Eve Ball, Jarves Garrett, Lee Myers, Bill McCall and Sterling Rhodes.
The Photograph series contains negatives, copy prints and some original prints. The images reflect New Mexico personalities and places. Photograph subjects include Mescelaro Apache Indians, ranching families, mines and the Lincoln County War.
The Posterboards were created by Weisner and used as visual aid for speaking engagements and public displays. The boards are collages of photographs, documents, postcards and maps.
There are approximately 5 cubic feet of additions to the Herman Weisner Papers that were not integrated into the collection but rather added as a separate series at the end. Portions of the additions were arranged by Weisner, the remainder are unarranged. They consist of notes taken by Weisner, photocopies of archival documents, and duplicate materials. The majority of these materials pertain to Albert B. Fall's political scandal and the Lincoln County War.
