Scope and Contents
This binder contains photocopies of documents obtained by Ketring on the estate of Emil Fritz. Emil Christian Adolph Fritz was born in Stuttgart, Germany. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1851.The main event that resulted in the beginning of the Lincoln County War was controversy over the disbursement of Emil Fritz's insurance policy. Fritz was a partner of L. G. Murphy. After falling ill in 1874, Fritz returned to Germany for treatment. He died in June of that year. The executors of the estate hired Alexander McSween to collect his insurance policy. After collecting the policy, McSween refused to give the money to the executor of the estate.
