Letter from F.G. Bloom, September 16, 1885

 File — Box-Folder: 2:3

Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The papers of the Anderson Cattle Company span the years 1883-1886, with the bulk of material concentrated in 1885. The collection is a series of personal and business correspondences of W.E. Anderson, and includes information about cattle and land transactions based on New Mexico territorial statutes. There is little information relating to the founding of the company or Anderson himself.

The collection has been organized into two boxes. The first box is the original Anderson Cattle Company letter book, spanning 292 pages. Most of the content in the latter part of the book is difficult to read or has been obliterated due to natural conditions. The second box has been organized chronologically into five folders. The first folder is a copy of an original document that bears the Anderson Cattle Company title on the letterhead. The second folder is a carbon copy of an original letter that outlines cattle and land transactions in the Rio Hondo Valley between W. E. Anderson and G.B. Banbes. The third folder is a photocopied letter from the Bloom Cattle Company, and outlines cattle transactions between Anderson Cattle Company and Bloom Cattle Company. The fourth folder is a series of typed transcripts of the first four pages of the letter book. In the typed transcripts there are several spelling and grammatical errors that are not in the original letter book. The fifth folder is a series of handwritten notes from the original letter book, and the bulk of material describes land transactions based on New Mexico territorial statutes. The notes begin on page 4 and conclude on page 83. The notes are incomplete and have gaps between 4 and 83 due to obliterated text or difficulty reading the author’s handwriting.

The entire collection is a series of correspondence that include letters to F.G. Bloom, John A. Thatcher, M.D. Thatcher, New Mexico Public Land Office, and G.G. Banbes.
