Scope and Contents

The series contains research files and manuscripts written by Peña and is arranged alphabetically by subject title. Some folders contain both research materials and Peña’s writings on the subject. Many folders contain various versions of the same piece, demonstrating its evolution and Peña’s writing and editing style. The folder titles in quotation marks correspond directly to manuscript or story titles given by Peña or a publisher. There is one box of oversized documents within the series. Included in the series is Peña’s drafts and manuscripts of his book Memories of Cibola, published in 1997 by the University of New Mexico Press. Material is in English and Spanish, and noted where both languages are present. The range of dates includes facsimiles of research material used by Peña.
