Scope and Content

From the Collection: The Robert Westhafer papers comprise one linear foot and span the years 1933-1955. The papers consist primarily of student notebooks from Westhafer's school years at Harvard University when he was working on his Master's Degree and at Ohio State University, where he received his doctorate.

The notebooks are from mathematics courses, covering differential equations, algebra, and complex variables, among other topics. The notebooks are arranged chronologically, with the earliest notebooks in the beginning of the collection.

In addition to the notebooks from Harvard University and Ohio State University, there are two undated papers. One paper is on Adam Smith and the other is called "The Mathematical Theory of Big Game Hunting." The collection also contains copies of examinations from freshman and sophomore mathematics courses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
